Simon Mongey is an assistant professor of economics at the University of Chicago’s Kenneth C. Griffin Department of Economics. His research consists of quantitative studies of the U.S. economy combining microdata and macroeconomic models to understand changes in the economy over time and the effects of counterfactual economic policies.
His research has focused on the role of market structure in monetary economics, labor economics, and product markets, and the functioning of frictional labor markets.
He received his Ph.D. in economics from New York University and graduated from University of Melbourne with a B.A. in economics. Before joining the University of Chicago, he spent a year as a junior scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
