  • A curriculum vitae or resume.
  • A one- to two-page proposal of work to be completed as a visiting fellow, including timeline, expected level of effort (i.e., hours spent per week), requests for support from Equitable Growth, and a discussion of why Equitable Growth is the right place to host this work.

Interview Process

At the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, we strive to create a thoughtful, transparent, and respectful hiring experience. While the exact process and order of steps may vary by role, candidates can generally expect the following steps:

  1. Initial Phone Screen — Qualified candidates will first participate in a brief phone conversation, typically with the hiring manager, to discuss their background, interest in Equitable Growth, and alignment with the role.
  2. Panel Interview — Candidates selected to move forward will typically meet with a panel interview made up of cross-functional colleagues. This step allows candidates to engage with future collaborators and provides Equitable Growth with a more holistic understanding of how candidates work, communicate, and contribute to a team.
  3. Interview with the Hiring Manager — The final stage is an additional meeting with the hiring manager for a more in-depth discussion about the candidates’ experience and skills, and how they would approach the responsibilities of the position.

Throughout the process, we aim to provide timely communication and ensure candidates have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about our work, culture, and mission.

Our Partnership with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union

At the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, our mission to advance strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth starts with how we support our own employees. Our research shows that when workers have voice, power, and fair compensation, economies are more resilient, innovative, and inclusive. We strive to reflect those same principles in our workplace.

As part of this commitment, we recognize the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union as the collective bargaining representative of eligible employees. Through union representation, our employees have a structured and meaningful voice in shaping decisions about compensation, benefits, and working conditions.

Our partnership with NPEU is grounded in insights from our work on labor market institutions, wage growth, and economic inequality. Decades of research—including the work we support—demonstrates that unions can help raise wages, improve job quality, reduce pay disparities, and strengthen worker bargaining power. These outcomes contribute to more equitable growth by ensuring that the gains from economic expansion are more broadly shared.

By partnering with NPEU, we aim to embody these principles internally, fostering a workplace that is collaborative, transparent, and aligned with our mission. Equitable Growth is committed to maintaining a respectful and constructive relationship with NPEU, working in good faith to ensure our organizational practices reflect the values we advance in our research and policy work.

Candidates for union-represented roles will have the opportunity to learn more about NPEU and what union representation means as part of the onboarding process.
