Dan Breznitz is the Munk chair of innovation studies, and the co-director of the Innovation Policy Lab in the Munk School of the University of Toronto, as well as a fellow of CIFAR (opens in a new tab), where he co-directs the program on Innovation, Equity, and the Future of Prosperity (opens in a new tab).
Before moving to the University of Toronto, Breznitz spent 8 years as a professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and was the co-founder and CEO of a software company in Israel.
He is the author of two award-winning books, Innovation and the State: Political Choice and Strategies for Growth in Israel, Taiwan, and Ireland (opens in a new tab) and The Run of the Red Queen: Government, Innovation, Globalization, and Economic Growth in China (opens in a new tab).
His next book, Innovation in Real Places: Strategies for Prosperity in an Unforgiving World, is coming out in January 2021.
Breznitz received his B.A. from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
